Existing solutions were either too limiting (voice-only) or unsafe (full touch). We needed to create a system that adapted to driving context without compromising usability.

What I Did
What I Did
As Senior Design Lead, I led the design of Scout's In-Car Marketplace and pioneered the voice-first interaction strategy.
I established multimodal design principles that balanced safety with usability.

How We Solved It
How We Solved It
We designed a multimodal system that adapted to driving context in real-time:
We designed a multimodal system that adapted to driving context in real-time:
1.
1.
Context-Aware Adaptation: In Parked Mode, users had full touchscreen access. Once shifted to Drive, the interface immediately prioritized voice-first interaction. This instant mode-switch eliminated confusion. Drivers always knew which interaction method was available based on their gear state.

Voice-First Ordering (Patented) A conversational flow let drivers complete full transactions hands-free, from customization to payment. This became a patent for in-car commerce interaction design.

As Senior Design Lead, I led design and research for the Marketplace feature. I managed a team of UX/UI designers, conversation designers, and researchers, working alongside the Sr. Director of Product, Sr. Director of Business Development, and Director of Engineering.

Establishing the Team Process
Establishing the Team Process
I created a bi-weekly design sprint cadence integrated with engineering scrum. This included daily standups, weekly 1:1s, and design reviews with leadership. I ensured the team tested every feature in real cars before handoff to engineering.

I initiated conversation and voice design at Telenav, creating the voice interaction strategy from the ground up. I delivered all design specs for UX, UI, Voice, and VUI, and led the team in creating versions for Scout, CarPlay, and Android Auto.
